Truffle Surveys

Scratch and Sniff Scentwork provides timber parcel surveys for various truffle species. We specialize in Oregon Winter White Truffle (Tuber oregonense), Oregon Spring White Truffle (T. gibbosum), and Oregon Black Truffle (Leucangium carthusianum), the primary culinary/edible crops of Oregon. Single-visit presence/absence assessments of small parcels (4-10 acres) are available to landowners within an hour of Eugene for a small fee and/or share of harvest.

More extensive surveys to delineate species distribution, productivity, and value estimates across large parcels of timber, with associated reports, can also be conducted. The cost of services depends on various factors, including size of the area surveyed, access challenges, and reporting requirements.

Surveys take place from early winter (mid November) into early spring (March). Terrain needs to be safely walkable for humans and canines to be surveyed. It is helpful to know the age of timber stands, dominant species, and size of the parcel, as well as relevant details about road access.

Scratch and Sniff Scentwork carries relevant liability insurance, and prides itself on safety, reliability, and privacy. We value our relationships with local landowners and timber companies.
